Little Market of Wet Dreams

“Little Market of Wet Dreams” presents 10 new ceramic works by artist Ernie Wang. In this small shop, a series of works crafted from ceramics, such as mirrors, swords, castles, clubs, shower curtains and dumbbells, serve as conduits guiding beyond the symbolic significance of mere objects to unreachable dreams or utopias envisioned by the artist. Inspired by pop culture, Berlin sex club culture, ancient mythology, historical novels, and more, these works are also connected to stories found in video games, myths, fairy tales, and classical novels.

In “Diablo 4,” traditional distinctions between good and evil, Heaven and Hell, are transcended, with players (humans) existing as the third force that breaks through chaos, where the concepts of good and evil do not always represent clear-cut notions of right or wrong. This prompts players to delve into deeper moral and philosophical considerations.

Similarly, the Chinese classic “Dream of the Red Chamber” blurs the boundaries between reality and fiction, truth and falsehood, femininity and masculinity, purity within the garden and filth outside, as it explores the diverse aspects of human existence through complex relationships and love stories among its characters. This work reveals profound societal, cultural, and personal meanings, as well as the irony of life.

Both narratives explore dilemmas beyond binary thinking, showcasing the complexity and multifaceted nature of human experience. Moving beyond simplistic notions of good and evil, reality and fiction, purity and impurity, they investigate how these elements intertwine and interact.
